Meet Dennis Potvin

Dennis Potvin is a factory manager and Democratic politician in the state of Tennessee.

Born in Flint, Michigan, Potvin graduated from the University of Michigan in 1994 and entered the automotive industry as a temporary hourly employee at General Motors. He is currently a Production Manager at a factory in Clarksville, Tennessee.

In 1996, Potvin met his wife, Lisa, and the couple married in 1999. They have two teenage daughters. Potvin is a graduate of the Austin Peay State University Master’s Program.

Potvin is an Eagle Scout (1988) and was nominated to the US Naval Academy at Annapolis in 1989 by US Representative Dale Kildee. He has coached Girls’ Youth Softball for Clarksville Parks & Recreation and is a Sponsor of The Food Initiative, Junior Civitan, Loaves and Fishes, Operation Stand Down, Manna Café, the Old Firehouse Day Shelter and the Humane Society of Clarksville.

Potvin and his family volunteer at Manna Café and at the Clarksville Animal Shelter, and are sponsors of the “Home for the Paw-lidays” program, in which the Potvin’s pay the fees for every cat adopted from the shelter in December. Potvin also sponsored a cooperative program between Operation Stand Down and Clarksville’s Recreation Centers, in which Potvin paid for every veteran and family member to receive free fitness memberships. He also sponsored a shopping spree for the Old Firehouse Day Shelter to buy food and supplies.

Potvin is a member of the Clarksville Historical Society, the American Farm Bureau, the Friends of the Roxy Theatre and Friends of Dunbar Cave State Park, in addition to being a member of the Belcourt Theatre and Cheekwood of Nashville.

Potvin’s father is a retired autoworker and veteran of the US Marine Corps. His mother is a retired medical billing professional. Both are also graduates of the University of Michigan, as is his wife, Lisa.
